About the Artist
My name is Edgar John McDonald, and I’ve been a creative my whole life. My mother introduced me to painting and drawing when I was 6 years old, and since then I have acquired many other forms of craft and artistry, from crochet to metallurgy. I joined the Marine Corps at 17 years old, and I served in the first Persian Gulf War, both through Desert Shield and Desert Storm. About 6 years ago, I had my first stroke, leaving me partially blind and with memory issues. I’ve worked in creative jobs like masonry and landscaping most of my life after the Marine Corps. My last stroke left me physically limited on my right side in both my arm and leg. After that, I’ve gone back to my roots to get what I can out of my life. I started painting again and then I started combining embroidery and other fibers arts with painting. I plan to continue with my art, expanding and incorporating other techniques with my current practices. As my great great uncle used to say, “the day you stop doing stuff is the day you start dying.”
