Sierra Kennebrew
My name is Sierra, and I am a local artist born and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I started creating art as early as ten years old, starting off with drawing as a hobby. After being diagnosed with Bipolar Type 2 and later Borderline Personality Disorder, I decided to take up acrylic painting. There was no particular theme; I used painting as a way to express my feelings. Later I had an amazing opportunity to have an art teacher at Chattanooga State Community College, Professor Holsomback, who pushed me past acrylic painting and taught me how to use oil instead. That is when I fell in love with oil paint, and I now use oil and acrylic as my mediums. What once was a hobby became a life saver. Every time I struggled with my mental health, I turned to art and made something based on how I felt at the time or just simply created something fun and exciting. Creating art became a great coping mechanism for me. And now I am excited to share my passion for art with others who love art as much as I do.
