About the Artist
Who is Queen Eccentric? That’s what I asked myself as I wrote this. Queen Eccentric is my poet name, but I was born Lakisha LaSha Allen in Chattanooga, TN. I experienced sexual violence starting at the age of 5; I was a troubled child that grew up to be a very loving, forgiving, and understanding adult. One day I noticed I buried all of my pain, which started to show in my adult years. I needed a way to cope and deal with past trauma, so I picked up a paint brush and pen. I began to turn pain into art, taking my power back. I am no longer a victim of my past, and I feel empowered. So, here’s a toast to all my survivors- You took our innocence but not our soul; you cannot have our souls.
